It has always been a part of the Mixed Greens vision to offer networking and learning opportunities to parents and families, to help us form stronger bonds with each other and to better serve our children. We are so happy to offer the first of what we hope will be many Parent Education Nights, beginning with Amy Hudgens, an awesome mom and Nutritional Consultant! Let us introduce her to you now:
Happy 2011 Mixed Greens Families! My name is Amy Hudgens and I am a Nutritional Consultant. I have been blessed and honored to start working with Mixed Greens Preschool and participate in their new Parent Education Nights. It is my mission and passion to offer simple and easy tips for busy parents and their families on how to nourish our bodies inside and out. I have developed a short series of health seminars that I will be facilitating for Mixed Greens. The first seminar is February 2nd, 2011 from 5:40-6:40 at Mixed Greens. This is a free event!
A little bit about myself: I have been a health educator for over 10 years and love meeting new people. I received my bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State in Women’s and Gender Studies. I have always had a passion for nutrition and holistic health, so I decided to get certified as a Nutrition Consultant. This passion began to carry a stronger force when I was pregnant with my daughter. Being nourished is so important and often we are too busy to take really good care of ourselves. I began to have conversations with various mom’s groups and their families about how we could make eating healthy more simple and nourishing. I soon found out, that a lot of parents I had conversations with felt the same way I did. I have a special interest in pregnancy, post-partum and children’s nutritional needs. This translates to whole family wellness and balance. I have found that it makes things so much easier when the whole family is on board when there is any sort of lifestyle shift. This is one of the main reasons why shopping, cooking, and eating has to stay as simple and fun as possible!
Our first seminar will focus on Quick and Nourishing Recipes for Busy Parents. We will create conversations about health and wellness, do a little cooking demo, and everyone will leave with some recipes to be able to make at home with the whole family. Let’s get the kiddos involved and excited about healthy food options!
Some possible upcoming seminar topics:
Picky Toddler? Fun ways to “Hide” healthy food in Nutritious meals
Ways to make veggies taste good
Food choices for children who have food intolerances or allergies
Organic Gardening: easy and fun ways to garden with the kiddos (farm tour also avail)
Developing a local CSA for families of Mixed Greens
I would love your input on other topics that would be of interest to you and your family.
I look forward to meeting all of you!
Be well, Amy Hudgens
